| | Biography:
Bala is of Indian origin. She has written her biography The Demure One!' and it will be launched on the 20th Feb. 2010 at the South Christchurch Library 11 am-1 pm. All invited. Bala had an exciting life so far, starting with the first ten years in a traditional indian town followed by further schooling in Nairobi. She then studied medicine in Bombay at the prestgious Grant Medical College. She then worked in the post Mau Mau era in Kenya, and went to the UK to specialize in obstetrics and Gynaecology. After ten years in the UK she emigrated to New Zealand where she practiced in her speciality until 1999. She is now settled in Christchurch in New Zealand where she paints and is an art tutor. She travels to Europe regularly and paints with internationally known artists. If you wish to read this book then to purchase contact Bala at balapatel@inet.net.nz. Bala has painted in many mediums but she is very excited with her results in Water Colors. It has the unique quality of transparency and the curious ability which no other medium has, to hold transient effects in perpetuity. It can conway things that have just happened or about to happen, it has ability to suggest arrested movement. Bala has been also painting New Zealand scenes using Acrylic paint and is excited with her results. She loves painting the deep gorges, the shinny rivers and the cool blue mountains of our paradise. Bala paints in a Traditional Impressionist style which is forever changing progressively as her paintings are her emotional outlets. Each painting is a grand personal experience. Bala does not have a serious message for the viewer but simply wishes to share the excitement of Color, Splendid Rhythm, Intense Focus and the beauty of the mesmerizing scenes here and in Europe where she travels frequently to paint. She loves painting places where people gather. Markets and cafes depict a collection of people in groups where they unite in thought, talk and romance and each little group can tell a storey of its own. Bala concentrates on depicting Light, Mood and Atmosphere in her paintings and the use of vibrant colors for which she is known is what SHE sees in her everyday life in New Zealand and abroad. Bala has been painting Indian Landscapes and Life Style in Villages. She toured in Rajasthan in Nov.2006 and came back with amazing ideas to paint. However she was so deeply moved by the extreme poverty of some of the street people that she was unable to focus and paint the street scenes for a few weeks.. She has painted the scenes of what she saw but hopes to return to northern India and study the culture further. Bala has been an Art Tutor for the last six years and although the classes are in Water Color her technique of teaching is such that the classes are of great help to artists painting in any medium. The classes are very inspiring and are ‘charged’ with exciting time.
